From a young age, Anu Vittal’s world came alive with every brushstroke. Painting was her gateway to a vibrant, imaginative universe. However, as she matured and entered the professional realm, she found herself drifting away from her creative roots. Reflecting on this period, she says:
“Perhaps I shut down that basic creative side, as many of us do when we immerse ourselves in the professional world. We often overlook the necessity of engaging the ‘right side’ of our brain. But I am fortunate to have rediscovered the importance of balancing creativity with logic.”
Anu-with-her-painting Around 15 years ago, Anu reignited her passion for painting. She began by gathering a small group of like-minded artists who met informally in homes, restaurants, and public parks, simply to create art for the sheer joy of it. This grassroots collective soon evolved into a more formal organization, propelling Anu to elevate their artistic endeavors.
Collaborating with Kalaniketan in Dubai, Anu and her group showcased their works across the UAE, enriching communities through art. Upon relocating to Canada, Anu joined the historic Mississauga Arts Society, one of Canada’s oldest art groups established in 1955. Her leadership as President spurred numerous community-oriented initiatives, such as Painting in the Park, hospital exhibits to uplift patients, and Friends of the Library shows to support local libraries. Through these efforts, she fostered a sense of unity and joy within the community.
In 2010, Anu launched Artescape Anua, a local art gallery dedicated to showcasing the works of Canadian and international artists. The gallery hosted diverse events and exhibitions, including appearances at the Toronto Art Expo, and shows in London, Dubai, the US, and India.
October 2013 marked the inception of “An Affair with Art,” a revolutionary initiative that broadened the scope of traditional art exhibitions. This event seamlessly integrated visual art with performance, food, fashion, photography, and jewelry. An Affair with Art transforms each piece into a multi-sensory experience, engaging every facet of the human mind and soul.
